Hi Barbarella, The reserach behind the chewing of gum shows how it can increase concentration through the susuatined rythym of the chewing, children then remin quieter for longer, tke fewer breeaks nd enerally susatin their attention longer than they usually would. The action of heweing increases blood flow to the brain, which too sounds positive. BUT, chewing gum also has side effects:prolonged stimulation of the brain to cause the release of highly acidic digestive juices to an empty stomach, stomach burns and ulcers, hormonal disuptions... So one needs to wirgh up the pro's and the cons in order to decide f it is something you want to do. Personally i think there are other healthier ways of stimulating and maintaining concentration in ADD. (Steph Maurel, Claremont Branch, Cape Town
